WHAT IS MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS?

Multiple Sclerosis is a neurological auto-immune degenerative disease of unknow origins,

(*meaning experts don’t know why or how it comes about),

that involves the deterioration of the communication between the brain and the body overtime.

It affects the brain and the spinal cord,

therefore, it happens inside the person, making it, in fact an

INVISIBLE DISABILITY.

THERE IS NO CURE

I’m gonna explain to you, in the simplest of terms, what’s going on inside a person affected with MS.

If you would rather read the official though, here it is: Multiple sclerosis - NHS (www.nhs.uk)

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THERE?!?

Now let’s imagine the white cells as mice and my nervous system as a bunch of phone charger wires covered in cheese paste . 😅

Mice love to eat and chew on things and all that cheese smells nice, so they start nibbling.

If a mouse is just chewing on the plastic covering, it’s fine, right?

But the cable might become partially exposed after lots of chewing…

Now, if the mouse keeps going back for seconds, slowly chewing through the cable until there is nothing left, the cable eventually stops working.

Basically the nervous connections between my brain and my body are being aggravated, and slowly but surely, some nervous connections will shut down and well, you know the rest.

Long story short, my brain is aging faster than it should, so although my body looks young it feels and moves like would that of a 80 y.o.

Let’s get medical!!!

Here’s what I just described to you in medical terms.

The lovely mice, are actually

T-CELLS,

cells that are supposed to be the “first responders” of the immune system in case of an external attackers like the flu.

Mine are drunk and think that my own brain is a “threat” an started to attack in order to defend.

The plastic covering of the cables is the equivalent of the protective sheet that covers our nerves, which is called

MYELIN.

Being a live tissue, once the attack is passed, the myelin will scar.

The “scars” in the brain are responsible for the symptoms, if the person feels any.

Yep, you read that right.

Some people may have more scarring but feel none of the symptoms whilst another might just have 2 and feel them all.

Scarring is normal for the brain, it happens over time with age, that’s what it’s happening to the people we would call “senile”.

I’m cutting corners, because the scars, which shouldn’t be there yet, are aggravated by constantly being under attack.

The array of symptoms a person has, depends on where on the brain the scars are.

Some may say fatigue is the worse, others brain fog, others mobility, exclusively and not.

IT’S NEVER THE SAME FOR EVERYONE.

The act of chewing, so when the mice is ACTIVALLY eating is called a

RELAPSE

The white cells are attacking, which causes an inflammation in the brain bringing it to misfire.

Not every “flare-up” is a relapse. If it lasts more then a week, then it is.

They may last weeks, and the recovery after that could take months, if ever.

To diminish the inflammation, heavy doses of cortisol for 4/5 days, is apparently the only way to go, unless you do like I did after 3 cortisol round, and wait it out.

The cortisol can be administered through infusions at the hospital or pills at home.

In Uk, is pills mostly.

The only way to get this, is the A&E, where, after having wasted half a day, you’ll have to go through all the necessary tests ,before having the prescription made.
